Educational intervention on the prevention of violence against elderly people

Abstract

"Purple June" is a campaign that aims to raise awareness in society about the prevention of all types of violence against the elderly. Thus, with the significant increase in this type of violence, we thought about promoting the educational intervention reported in this work, whose objective was to describe the experience. This is a descriptive study, of the experience report type, experienced by members of a line of research that addresses clinical nursing care for the elderly and the educational practices of a nursing research group at a public university in the Northeast. The experience reported took place in June, the month of awareness about violence against the elderly, in 2024 and had as its target audience students from a vocational high school in the city of Fortaleza. The action highlighted a gap in knowledge about the types of violence against this age group. Despite the presence of laws and campaigns, young people showed little involvement with the topic. The intervention, which used interactive resources such as videos, folders, slides and the Kahoot platform, facilitated the understanding and engagement of the adolescents, with positive learning results and awareness-raising for the group. The action provided the target audience with new knowledge about violence against the elderly and how to prevent it. It is hoped that this work will stimulate other awareness-raising actions on the topic presented.
