Abstract

The aim of this extension report was to disseminate the concept of sustainability in the Professional and Technological Education Sector (SEPT) of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) by proposing practices and raising awareness of sustainability. The extension action was linked to the curricularization of extension in the Higher Degree in Technology in Quality Management, and lasted three semesters, called Challenge 1, 2 and 3. Starting with Challenge 1, a diagnosis was carried out in three stages: the first stage, which was qualitative, involved a semi-structured interview with the administrative coordinator; the second stage, which was quantitative, involved a surveyusing a questionnaire with enrolled students; in the third stage, through direct and non-participant observation, a mapping of the waste garbage cans in the Sector was created. Then, based on the information gathered, a table was drawn up showing the main environmental aspects and impacts. In Challenge 2, the extensionist  actionswere carried out, including: a reportand the start of there placement of garbage cans in the Sector; the provision of a can for the disposal of cooking oil; a visit to the recyclables cooperative; and a round table discussion with cleaning contractor satthe SEPT. Finally, in Challenge 3, the students wrote the  extension report and presented the results publicly, pointing out that this report comprises an initial phase in the processo implementing a culture of sustainability at SEPT. However, it already establishes an initiative for efforts to make the Sector more sustainable.
