Abstract

The aim of this communication is to present some of the results of research on the conflict and controversies involving animal traction in the greater area of Belo Horizonte. Setting out from the way of life that interweaves humans and equines in cities, I focus on changes in the legislation and developments of executive municipal power policies in the past two decades. I also put forward the conflict’s escalation between the years 2014 and 2018, based on my fieldwork over that period. Through ethnography, I aim to prove that the terms deployed in public debate are at least insufficient to understand the different meanings revolving around the work relations between and horses in cities.
