Writing processes of State: approaches from gender, sexuality, and violence

Abstract

In this article, we introduce the debates organized in the present issue of the dossier “Gender, sexuality, State, and violence,” following three distinct axes: the first one situates the conversations among the organizers of the dossier amid processes of reflection, debate, and collective writing, of which this dossier is a part and also an effect. The second axis contextualizes, based on authors who formed us, who are central for debates on gender and State in anthropology, our efforts to reflect analytically on the reciprocal production between processes of State, gender, and sexuality, violence – as practice, experience, language, a reason for denouncing, or an ethnographic context – being a relevant political and analytical vector. The third and last axis presents the articles that compose the dossier in their connections with the discussions we propose, considering their different empirical contexts. We understand that the assembled researches help us navigate through layers of articulation that show various incarnations of State and violence in their relational production with gender and sexuality.
