Imitating the ancient models of life, Manuel de Faria e Sousa writes, in 1639, Vida del Poeta, in which he presents to man of letters and courtiers the deeds of Luís de Camões, his works, the people he associated with, and his posthumous legacy. Among all the figures featured, the beloved women stand out, occupying a central position both in the poet's relations with the courtly circle and in his production within lyrical subgenres. Far from delving into the intricacies of private affections, this work proposes that Faria e Sousa, in describing the women in the poet’s life, seeks to construct a plausible image of Camões, versed in themes of war and love.
