It is not new that emotions play a central role in archaic epics. Just read a few verses from Iliad or Odyssey, for example, to realize the importance of feelings, like pit (mênin) or bitter nostalgia (póthos), in the construction of their narratives. In this article, we analyze an emotion that, for us, circulates and interconnects these two poems: fear. Our goal is to demonstrate, using the methodology of the History of Emotions, the different faces of fear present in Homeric poems.
