Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not in evaluation for publication in another journal, conversely, it must be justified in ‘Comments to the editor”.
  • The file being submitted in in Microsoft Word 6.0 format or later version (.doc or .docx).
  • All URLs were informed for the references, when possible.
  • Text written in Times New Roman font, size 12, 3cm margins (left, right, bottom and top), double spacing, foot notes in size 10 with single space. Text has not exceed 20 pages (if essay) or 10 pages (if review); pictures and tables are inserted in the text and not at the end of the document as annexes.
  • Text follows layout and bibliographical requirements describes in Author’s Guidelines, in the page About the Journal.
  • In case of submission to the section with blind peer review (e.g. essays), the instructions available in ‘ensuring blind peer review” were followed.

Author Guidelines

1. The work sent for publication in Cadernos de Letras da UFF will be submitted to the Editorial Commission Analysis, which will check for their originality and pertinence, besides the textual organization towards the periodical editorial line. The Commission will forward this work to the Editorial Council and ad hoc reviewers.  The approval of the paper does not imply in its publication in the immediate next issue of the journal.

1.1. Reviewers will check the originality of the texts through Plagiarism virtual tools.

1.2 the authorship of the text must be of post-graduated or post-graduating author. In the case of undergraduated or undergraduating, authorship must be in co-authoring with DSc or PhD under scientific supervising.

2. The texts must be submitted online in the system OJS, in doc. format in the registration area available in the top menu. While submitting the article, it is mandatory to supply the author’s bibliographical summary.

3. Only original papers will be accepted, which contribute to the discussion in the areas of Language and Linguistics. Essays written in Spanish, French, German, Italian or English may be received for evaluation.

4. The work must be presented in a compatible file with Word 6.0 (or later version) written in Times New Roman font, size 12, 3cm margin (left, right, bottom and top), double space, and must not exceed 15 pages (minimum of 12 pages), in the case of articles and 4 pages if it is a review. Foreign words and titles of books must be typed in italic; titles of the articles in quotes. The title of the work must be centralized, in capital letters and followed by the abstract, which should not exceed 5 lines, justified and in single space.  Three KEY-WORDS must be indicated and also presented justified, separated with semicolons. The work may be divided in internal sections, with or without titles, always aligned at the left with capital letters and without any numeration. Quotations longer as 4 lines must be integrated to the paragraph. Quotations that are longer than 4 lines, must be detached, with a 1,5 space and a 4cm paragraph indentation. At the end of the work, after the complete bibliographical references, the title, the abstract and the key-words must be translated to English. If the original article is written in English, title, abstract and key-words must also be supplied in Portuguese. If the language of the article is other than Portuguese or English, title, abstract and key-words must be translated to these two languages. Avoid underline and bold marks.

4.1. The file .doc must not be identified with author's data. The texts will be associated to the meta-data filled out at submission and will be recognized by the system. For this reason, it is indispensable to pay attention while filling out this information at the moment of your submission. Files with author's data will be rejected.

5. Graphics, illustrations and tables must be compatible to be exhibited in Word 6.0 (or later) and must be numbered and captioned. The reproduction of these items will be in black and white in the printed version and in colour in the electronic version.

6. The bibliographical references should be at the end of the text, indicating the author’s name, title of the work, in italic, edition number (if it is the case), city, press, publishing year, page number. E.g.:
DANTAS, Raymundo Souza. África difícil. Diário de uma missão condenada. Rio de Janeiro: Nova Fronteira, 1964. p.40.

7. Bibliographical sources from the Internet must be indicated, containing the author’s name (if available) with the surname in capital letters, paper title (if available) in capital letters, without quotes, title of the internet site in italic (if available), Uniform Resource Locator (URL), date of the visit. E.g.:
BAILLY, Bérénice. A segunda pele. Mais!, http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/fsp/mais/fs1106200605.htm, 12/06/2006.

8. In case of journals: author’s name, complete title of the article in capital letters and without quotes, name of the journal in italic, volume and/or issue of the journal, page(s) number(s), place and publication date. E.g.:
DÁVILA, Jerry. O comparativo e o transnacional nos estudos dos Estados Unidos e do Brasil. Transit circle: revista brasileira de estudos americanos, 4: 66-77, Rio de Janeiro, 2005.

9. For any other kind of reference, please refer to ABNT norms.

10. In the text, the references should be presented between parenthesis, abbreviated in the following way: author’s surname in capital letters; comma, publication date; comma, page abbreviation (p.) followed its number(s). The expressions such as idem or ibidem must not be used. E.g.: (PESSOA, 1986, p.994).

11. Any communication with collaborators will be made electronically, thus e-mails must be kept updated and active.

12. The papers approved for publication will be reviewed for linguistic adequacy and, if necessary, sent to the authors for final correction. Not returning the paper in the timeframe indicated by the Editorial Commission implies in the cancelation of the publication.

13. The published paper will be available in the internet, in the electronic version of the journal: www.cadernosdeletras.uff.br.
