Abstract

This paper presents a study of images involving cultural representation, being based on two Brazilian films – O Auto da Compadecida (2000) and Cidade de Deus (2002). The analysis involves the question of two what extent subtitles and images transmit meaning concerning cultural representations. Even when subtitles have any kind of limitation, images show, at least in 93,75% of the cases, information that present cultural representation of the two ‘brasis” presented in the films.

Possui Mestrado e Doutorado na área de Estudos da Tradução pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Inglês (PGI) da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). Professora Adjunta do Curso de Letras/Inglês da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (UFCG). Atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: Tradução e Cultura, Tradução Intersemiótica e Cinema, Abordagem Funcionalista da Tradução. Coordenadora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Linguagem e Ensino da UFCG. Orientadora e coorientadora de doutorado, mestrado e iniciação científica. Tradutora de artigos científicos.
