Abstract

Melhoramentos publisher released Histórias extraodinárias, in 2006, with four translations of stories by Edgar Allan Poe. ‘The Oval Portrait” is the object of this paper which intends to analyze some illustrations, with emphasis on the relation between word and image, trying to identify the relations of convergences and divergences between the verbal and visual texts, based on theoretical theories of intersemiotic translation and adaptation.

Author Biography

Maria da Luz Alves Pereira, UPM/UFMS

Mestre em Estudos de Linguagens pela Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul e doutoranda em Letras na Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (DINTER em Letras UPM/UFMS), bolsista pela CAPES. Atua como docente em Língua Inglesa, no Colégio Militar de Campo Grande. É filiada ao Grupo de Estudos Linguísticos do Estado São Paulo (GEL), desde 2009. Participa ativamente de eventos acadêmicos nacionais e internacionais, sempre com a apresentação de trabalhos. Sua produção acadêmica vincula-se as linhas que desenvolvem interesse pelo estudo de Literatura Americana, Edgar Allan Poe, dialogismo, tradução, adaptação e estudos intersemióticos.
