Abstract

This article aims to analyze the aesthetic and ideological contradictions involved in the literary representation of the genuine Brazilian hero in the novel O Guarani, wrote by José de Alencar, and also in its graphical representation in the adaptation of this book to the language of comics. The context considered is that of a culture deeply marked by inferiority complex arising from its colonial history.

Author Biography

Pascoal Farinaccio, UFF

Graduado em Letras / Português pela Universidade de São Paulo (1996), Mestrado em Teoria e História Literária pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1999) e Doutorado em Teoria e História Literária pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2004). Atualmente é professor associado de literatura brasileira no Instituto de Letras da Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). Tem experiência na área de Letras, com ênfase em literatura brasileira, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: crítica literária, literatura comparada, prosa de ficção contemporânea, Oswald de Andrade, Glauber Rocha, relações entre discurso literário, cinema e fotografia. Desenvolve projeto de pesquisa intitulado Mundos Crepusculares no Brasil e na Itália: A Menina Morta, de Cornelio Penna e Il Gattopardo, de Lampedusa / Visconti; , no qual investiga em perspectiva comparada o tema da decadência das aristocracias no romance italiano e em sua versão cinematográfica, e no romance brasileiro com apoio em fotografias de fazendas de café e escravos em fins do século XIX. Publicou os livros Serafim Ponte Grande e as Dificuldades da Crítica Literária(Ateliê Editorial, 2001) e Oswald Glauber: Arte, Povo, Revolução (Eduff, 2012).
