Abstract

The article aims to discuss two fundamental concepts for the theory and criticism of children's literature: the conception of children on which children's works are built and the social function attributed to children's literature. The text analyzes how important theorists of Brazilian children's literature dealt with the issue and how the different conceptions of childhood determined the course of children's literature in the country.

Lucila Bonina Teixeira Simões, Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (UEA) / rede municipal de Manaus

Graduada em Licenciatura Plena em Le­tras – Língua Portuguesa pela Universidade Federal do Amazonas. Especia­lista em Coordenação Pedagógica pela mesma Universidade. É mestranda do Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras e Artes (PPGLA) da Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (UEA), em que desenvolve a pesquisa Literatura infan­tojuvenil: compondo um panorama da produção amazonense, sob a orientação da Profª Drª Juciane Cavalheiro. Atua profissionalmente como professora de Língua Portuguesa da rede municipal de ensino de Manaus, atuando como formadora no programa de formação continuada de professores da secretaria municipal de educação de Manaus.
