Abstract

After brief analysis of the epistolary genre and the specificity of the anonymous letter illustrated with examples from Brazilian literature, this study focuses on letters inserted by Rosario Ferré in the short-story ‘La bella durmiente”/‘Sleeping Beauty”(1976), combining tex- tual and sociocultural analysis, and associating anonymous letters both to women’s condition and the Puerto-Rican marginal situation as nation/state.

Integra o corpo docente do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, com Mestrado em Literatura Norte-Americana pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro e Doutorado em Estudos Americanos pela University of Minnesota. Membro do GT da ANPOLL “Relações literárias interamericanas”, publicou o livro Bridging the Americas: the literature of Paule Marshall, Toni Morrison, and Gayl Jones (Temple, 1995), além de artigos que focalizam escritores de partes do Caribe, Canadá e Estados Unidos e refletem interesse em questões de gênero, raça e classe.
