Abstract

The Filled Gap Effect (FGE) is investigated in Brazilian Portuguese through eye- tracking and self paced reading experiments. Results detect the presence of FGE, indicating that the parser is strictly syntactic in the early stage of processing. The final measures in the two experiments present discrepant results, motivating a discussion on possible good-enough effects.

Professor associado IV de Linguística da UFRJ (Departamento de Linguística) e Pesquisador 1C do CNPq. Coordenador do Programa de pós-graduação em Linguística (POSLING/UFRJ) desde 2010. Doutor em Lingüística pela University of Southern California, USC (1994). Pós-doutorado na área de Processamento de Frases na City University of New York - CUNY (2004). Coordenador do grupo de pesquisa Laboratório de Psicolingüística Experimental - LAPEX (UFRJ/CNPq), registrado no Diretório de Grupos de Pesquisa do CNPq, em 2001. Professor visitante na University of Massachusetts, Amherst em 2012/1. Pesquisa e orienta nas áreas de Psicolinguística, Teoria Gramatical e Línguas Indígenas Brasileiras. Entre outros trabalhos, publicou os livros “Aspectos Tipológicos da Língua Javaé” (LincomEuropa,1998), Manual de Linguística (MEC/UNESCO, 2007) e organizou os livros Processamento da Linguagem (com Ingrid Finger, em 2005) e Papers in Psycholinguistics (com Aniela França, em 2010).
