Abstract

In this article, we would like to show how crises and changes derived from them can be found in more than one compositional level of Virgil’s Georgics. Since the ‘Invocation to gods”, described in Book I of the poem, the young Octavian Augustus is introduced by the poet as being the hope for a restoration to a Rome which was badly shaken by wars. In Book IV of the same work, however, the image of the recovery of the hives, presented by Aristaeus, ‘echoes” Augustus’ deeds and fulfills this same transformational function.
