Abstract

This essay aims at investigating the matter of language and art in Virginia Woolf ’s To the Lighthouse, highlighting movements of proximity and distance, as well as those of solitude and intimacy, that point to the permeability of life. With the purpose of analyzing women’s relations within the novel, the paper seeks to reflect upon the notion of precariousness elaborated by Judith Butler (Frames of War) in dialogue with Woolf ’s A Room of One’s Own.

Author Biography

Marcela Filizola, Pós-graduação em Ciência da Literatura — UFRJ/CAPES

Graduou-se em Desenho Industrial (Comunicação Visual) e em Letras com ênfase em Produção Textual na Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro em 2009 e 2014, respectivamente. Concluiu o mestrado em Letras - Literatura, Cultura e Contemporaneidade na PUC-Rio em 2016. Em março de 2018, iniciou o doutorado em Ciência da Literatura na UFRJ. Atua principalmente nas áreas de teoria literária e de artes visuais e trabalha com design, revisão e tradução.
