Abstract

Rodolfo Teófilo was a pharmacist, politician and novelist. His intellectual production comprises from courses of botany and treaties of pharmacy to short stories and novels. In this article, it is evidenced the importance of the scientific discourse of the late nineteenth century for the representation of Brazilian nature in the novel Os Brilhantes (1906), originally published in 1895.

Possui graduação pela Faculdade Nacional de Direito da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2008), graduação pelo Instituto de Letras da Universidade Federal Fluminense (2013) e mestrado em Estudos de Literatura pela Universidade Federal Fluminense (2011). É doutor em Literatura Comparada pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação de Estudos Literários/UFF (2018).
