In this study we analyzed the processing and interpretation of covert and overt subjects in European and Brazilian Portuguese (EP and BP) when referring to antecedents with different structural position and syntactic functions. Results: both structural position and syntactic function influence coreference resolution in EP; in BP null subjects are more easily interpreted when referring to the closest c-commanding antecedent.
