Abstract

The article discusses my journey as a researcher of ancient Greek literature, which resulted in the translation of two works by Xenophon of Athens usually considered historiographical: Cyropaedia (2021) and Anabasis (to be published in 2024). I reflect on how my approach to the translation of the Classics was defined (and modified) in relation to the broader context of Classical Studies in Brazil in the 21st century. I consider, among other factors, the expansion of our research area which resulted from public policies; the working conditions in the academic field and the rise of the conservative and extremist thinking in recent years.
