Abstract

This article reflects on the experience of this translator in her engagement with ancient Greek poetry, especially in the melic and elegiac genres. By doing so, it aims at risking a few thoughts on translation itself and translation by women in our world of Greek Studies. Such thoughts are not based on theories of translation, but rather on the experience, formation and concerns that shape the work I have been offering as a contribution to readers, researchers, and scholars, and as an addition to those of other women translators in our country.

Author Biography

Giuliana Ragusa, Universidade de São Paulo

É Professora Associada (Livre-Docente) de Língua e Literatura Grega na Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas (DLCV), da Universidade de São Paulo. É Bacharel em Letras/Português (1999), Mestre (2003) e Doutora (2008) em Letras Clássicas, pela USP, com Pós-Doutorado (08/2012-01/2013) nos EUA (University of Wisconsin-Madison). Foi bolsista Fapesp (IC, 1997-8; Mestrado, 2001-3; Pós-Doc, 2012-3) e Capes ("Bolsa Sanduíche" PDEE, UW, Madison, EUA, 2006-7). Foi zero-dollar visiting scholar na UW em 2015 (Classics Dept.). É Livre-docente (USP) desde 11/2019. É vice-líder do Grupo de Pesquisa CNPq "Estudos sobre jambo, elegia, mélica e música na Antiguidade Clássica", liderado pela Profa. Paula Corrêa (USP). Foi coordenadora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras Clássicas (11/2021-10/2023).
