A tradução da comédia aristofânica: reescrita de resistência à tradição

Abstract

This article aims to make a comparative analysis of two translations of the play Acharnians, by Aristophanes, carried out by SILVA (1988) and POMPEU (2021), examining strategic actions of translation of the comic text into Portuguese, as a result of an ideological-discursive practice in their translation contexts. Translation is understood as a process of rewriting (LEFEVERE, 2007), that dialogues not only with the Theory of Polysystems (EVEN-ZOHAR, 1979) but also with the rereading of “resistance” (VENUTI, 2002) to think about the processes of foreignization and domestication in a type of composition considered minor. It aims to argue that the process of domestication is part of a shout of resistance in order to propose new ways of considering Aristophanic comedy in translations in Brazil, situated on the margins of what is considered classic or canonical, as the construction of a dissident discourse.

Author Biography

Stefania Sansone Bosco Giglio, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro

She holds a licentiate degree in Portuguese/Greek Letters from the Fluminense Federal University (2014) and a Master's in Classical Letters from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2017), with a scholarship granted by CAPES. She was a substitute professor of Greek language and literature at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, between 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022. She is currently doing a PhD in Classical Letters at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro with a scholarship granted by CAPES. She has experience in the area of Letters, with emphasis on Classical Letters, working mainly on the following subjects: Greek Language and Literature, Greek Theater, Translation Studies and Translation of Ancient Greek Comedy and is part of the research group Laboratório de Estudos Clássicos-LEC / UFF.
