This is a contribution to the editorial Women Who Translate the Classics, which is dedicated to fostering a greater impact of translations of Greek and Latin classics by women. It presents the partial results of the project Ancient Women Philosophers for Brazilian Women Philosophers, developed since 2021 with Faperj support, based on its central objective of reducing gender inequality in academic education in Philosophy in Brazil. The first section presents data on gender inequality in the world and the hypotheses formulated about its causes. The second section presents the objectives of the project and its partial results. The last section deals with issues of translation method and text analysis, with emphasis on the fact that sources on ancient women philosophers are always indirect. I conclude by pointing out how the project, by connecting a contemporary metaphilosophical question with the identification of the philosopher in antiquity, places the translation of the classics into Portuguese as a central piece in the fight against gender inequality.
