This paper presents an account on the translation process of Ovid’s Tristia into Portuguese and its publication as a book. Considering translation as a kind of rereading or interpretation (MARTINDALE, 1993, p. 75), I discuss the translation process as closely related with literary analysis, in order to evince that my translation of Tristia was based on the idea of an ‘Ovidian literary theory’ (XXXX, 2019 e 2023), constructed after Naso’s meta-poetic comments and remarks in exilic poetry. I use this same idea to present the conceptions involved on publishing the translation as a book. At the end, I offer some theorizations of the translation process grounded in the metaphors of metamorphosis and dialogue, two recurrent themes in Ovid’s exile poetry.
