Authors

Abstract

This paper is dedicated to analyzing the implementation of computer graphics technology and art on Brazilian television in the 1980s. During this period, Globo TV was one of the first companies in the world to invest in this technology, which put Brazil in world pioneering position on an unexpected pitch for a still largely agricultural country and much more famous for its football. A combination of technological resources, human availability, as well as artistic and commercial demands, made this realization possible, which built a development base for Brazilian and North American professionals, with unfolding and technical and cultural consequences that reach to the present day. Using the methodology of oral history, the work recovers the narrative of the characters that were fundamental to the computer graphics technology in Brazilian television.
