Abstract

This work is proposed to reflect on the ethics of social media and influence their
collaborative dynamics in a democratic context. It is intended to do so in the light of the
theories of Jürgen Habermas, particularly regarding the critical role social media can be
considered in a new guise of Habermas' concept of public sphere, is understood as a social phenomenon open and permeable. Therefore, it is necessary to highlight the importance of communicative action that can build and transform public spaces. The issue appears to be relevant, although the initial Habermas criticizes the decadence of the bourgeois public sphere and the relation of the critical means of mass communication. Despite an apparent change of attitude of the author in relation to the subject, means to rebuild the important role of media in the public sphere, from the journey undertaken by Habermas, highlighting the ambiguity of the social role of the media, which can be understood as an instrument in the hands of small groups or as a trigger for a critical reflective process. The second option is solidified after the advent of so-called "web 2.0", which introduced a proposal for a more participatory and less individualistic or consumer to be adopted by Internet users. As a result, we observe the
growth of virtual communities using diverse mechanisms, such as Facebook and Wikipedia, among others. These communities bring together members with backgrounds and different perspectives on the world, boasting a multicultural environment, which is notable for the practice of communicative action. It is on this phenomenon, investigating the ethical substratum that drives this kind of interactive environment, as well as how to view built in the sphere of social media can influence civil society.
