Este texto constitui uma revisão de pesquisas realizadas no Brasil no campo do sistema prisional que, a partir de um enfoque socioantropológico, fizeram uso da metodologia etnográfica nos últimos dez anos. A maioria destas investigações discutem temas como gangues e violência, mulheres e familiares de presos, práticas religiosas, agentes penitenciários, adolescentes infratores, entre outros.
