This article proposes an analysis of the function, structure and composition of the Portuguese Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (CSMP) and its accountability mechanisms. Focusing on the sanctions imposed on its members through disciplinary decisions during the period from 2016 to 2020. This study is justified because, although the Public Prosecutor’s Office exercises a supervisory function, it is the judicial system body that makes less data available about its activities, which is why it is a little explored object. Methodologically, this research is framed within institutionalism and uses the quantitative and qualitative method, using primary and secondary sources as well as data from the CSMP, being characterized as a descriptive and exploratory research. As a result, we can point out the little transparency of the institution about the punishment of the disciplinary decisions and soft punishment.
