prostitution is a choice or the consequence?

The research aims to investigate the factors that lead transsexual and transvestite people to exercise sexual work and hypothesizes that the need for subsistence is the main factor for transvestites and transsexuals to prostitute themselves. There is also a lack of access to schooling and a lack of professional opportunities such as the guiding thread. Based on quantitative research, focusing on transvestites and transsexuals who live or work in Passo Fundo/RS, the hypothesis was partially corroborated. It was concluded that the lack of opportunities in formal and informal jobs, combined with the need for subsistence, is a major reason for choosing prostitution. Schooling, in the study, does not appear as relevant, comparing national data on access to schooling by the transvestite and transsexual population. The correction occurs in the demystification of the idea that prostitution is the only profession exercised by the studied population and that only female bodies exercise it.
