Although Bourdieu's analyzes precede Castel's by several decades, they were done in a way that allowed the validity of Castel's theses to be demonstrated a posteriori. Bourdieu provides theoretical and empirical keys to model Castel's analyzes of social insecurity (made from a historical method), and thus make them enter the quantitative and qualitative description of social hierarchy. Bourdieu not only provides us with proof of Castel's theses, but also allows us to integrate recent advances in economics in the description of inequalities and overcome the predominant and harmful division between economics and sociology, in particular by reintegrating the question of heritage and property, which is central for Castel in the construction of the modern individual.
