José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva (1763-1838) fo i mineralogista, dentista e pensador político, havendo se tornado o mais importante ministro do Primeiro Império e tutor de Pedro 11. Foi autor de projetos civilizatórios que procuravam aproximar o Brasil de um perfil europeu, sem perder de vista especifiridades locais.
