THE GEOPOLITICS OF THE RIGHT TO HEALTH OF QUILOMBOLA POPULATIONS IN THE STATE OF PERNAMBUCO
EXCLUSION AND RESISTANCE BEFORE AND DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
Abstract
The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the government's historic omissions in providing quilombola communities with minimum conditions to preserve the lives of their members. The present work intends to identify the connections between the colonial process of constitution of the quilombola territories of Pernambuco and the difficulties faced in the context of the pandemic for the preservation of the life and health of its members, which can be considered an example of geopolitics of the right to health of quilombola populations. On the one hand, as a result of the continuous effects of the superiority-subalternity-exclusion triad, the persistent denial of rights and an evident process of social exclusion, even more severe in times of pandemic, were found. On the other hand, it was found that the collective organization of the articulation of quilombola communities with partner entities is allowing the strategic mobilization of Law within the Supreme Court, with some relevant but still punctual victories.
