This research highlights the role of Indigenous patients' companions in promoting a humane healthcare environment that values their cultural identity. A literature and documentary review was conducted on constitutional principles such as health and culture, the legislation, and ethical standards governing the hospitalization of Indigenous patients and the role of companions, as well as the challenges faced in the hospital environment, which is often culturally unfamiliar. The results indicate the need for: adapting the healthcare system to offer more inclusive and humane care to Indigenous patients; and strengthening policies that ensure the presence of companions and respect Indigenous cultural practices, for more welcoming care. The conclusion is that recognizing the right to a companion is fundamental to providing dignified and respectful hospital care to Indigenous patients, reinforcing the importance of an approach that values cultural diversity within the healthcare system.
