Abstract
This article presents a preliminary diagnosis of the working and health conditions of teachers in Casimiro de Abreu
(RJ), based on the School Census (2014–2024) and the Teacher Survey (2024–2025), conducted by LIEPE/UFRRJ
in partnership with SEPE-RJ. In the light of historical-dialectical materialism, the analysis reveals three dimensions
of precarization: material, with insufficient infrastructure and eroded salaries; contractual, due to unstable
employment relations; and subjective, through illness and distress. The results show that neoliberalism
reconfigures teaching work and locally reproduces contradictions within public education.
Keywords: Precarization. Teaching work. Teacher distress. Public education. Neoliberalism.
