Abstract

This article presents a brief retrospective of the debates about the sublime and the beautiful since its origins, highlighting the emergence of the problem of the autonomy of art and the relationship of the arts to each other. The concepts of "genius", "beautiful" and "sublime" are connected, contextualized and related to the issues of modern and contemporary art.
