This article examines the influence of installing a skatepark in Praça XV, in the city center of Rio de Janeiro, on reducing crime rates, especially general thefts and street robberies. The research used data from the Public Security Institute (ISP) between 2003 and 2016 and applied the interrupted time series (ITS) method, with a Poisson regression model, to evaluate the effects of the intervention. The results reveal a significant reduction in theft and street robbery rates after the installation of the skatepark in Praça XV. The study highlights the importance of leisure and recreational spaces in promoting urban security, as well as emphasizing the need for integrated security policies and public order measures in urban areas.
