Abstract

In the context of 1970s carioca "marginal poetry", the group Nuvem Cigana is peculiar among other reasons for its poetry performances, presented between 1975 and 1979. These performances, called "Artimanhas", consist of an important means of access to the work of Nuvem Cigana poets: Chacal, Charles, Ronaldo Santos and Bernardo Vilhena. Examining some of the poems belonging to the group's oral repertoire, we may figure out that there is a poetics of the spoken word in operation. In order to appreciate the production of these poets and Nuvem Cigana's role within the cultural and literary context of the Brazilian military dictatorship with maximized critical accuracy it is essential that this poetics be known.
