This study discusses the relationship between landscape and thought in the poetry of Cecília Meireles focusing on the poems from the books Viagens (1939) and Mar Absoluto e outros poemas (1942). The meditative exercise, a constant in the author's poetics, is exercised in these works mainly in evocative and figurative associations of natural landscapes. And in this association, the landscape becomes a source or vehicle for thought, structuring the inquiry that the lyrical subject engenders about problems of a metaphysical and metapoetic nature. The approach proposed here is part of the study field on landscapes in literature, which has among its main references the French author Michel Collot. In his theory he proposes the analysis of how the landscape provokes thinking and how thought unfolds into a landscape which, especially in lyrical poetry, participates in the constellation of meanings produced by writing about the experience with the sensitive world. In Cecília Meireles' poetry, nature is the structure of the subject's relationship with the world, with oneself, with the other and with poetry itself. And its figuration in the form of a "landscape" always composes a "symbolic construction" through which the lyrical subject thinks and expresses this relationship, revealing oneself and one’s poetic song as participants in the natural world, moving with the wind, with the waves of the seas, with the glow of the stars or the moon.
