In this paper, we offer a preliminary investigation of the expression ‘juntos’ in Brazilian Portuguese (BP), which does not yet have a detailed description. In order to do so, our first step is to present, using linguistic tests, the different interpretations that this expression has in BP, and to propose a first semantic typology. After doing that, we present and evaluate two theories proposed for the item together, which can be understood as the counterpart of ‘juntos’ in English. We investigate whether these theories can account for the data presented for the expression in BP. Finally, we propose a preliminary theoretical description for 'juntos' in BP, based on the hypothesis that the role of this item is to create a (mereological) sum of entities. In the Conclusion, we present our main conclusions, and some remaining issues concerning the item 'junto(s)' in BP.
