Place: perceptions and experiences - studies about Portugal Pequeno and São Domingos, Niterói

Abstract

This essay seeks, through understanding of urban spaces and their uses, identify and understand the city as a meeting space, empowerer of experiences, forming identities and belonging, traversed by memory and feelings, understanding the space beyond its physical construction and the scientific-technical-hierarchical vision of some urban and researchers. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to build a more humane vision of the city, going against “empty” city models, scenario cities, town malls, finally, city spectacle, and trending the modern currents of thought about the look of the city, which humanizes the studies on them.
On this basis, and taking as analysis sample the city of Niterói, we chose as nuclei for this research, Portugal Pequeno, small strip seaside, located in the district of Ponta d’Areia, who had great contribution to the city construction and, in a parallel analysis, we also worked on São Domingo neighborhood focusing in the surrounding space of Leoni Ramos Plaza, known as Cantareira Plaza, which thus as the previous onde, has great historical value to Niterói.
