Abstract

This article considers the themes of refuge, welcoming and linguistic rights in the context of contemporary refuge migration in Rio de Janeiro. The analysis is based on a documentary research, focusing on official publications available on refugee immigration in Brazil and, more specifically, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. For this purpose, the theoretical framework used is Linguistic Rights (HAMEL, 2003; OLIVEIRA, SILVA, 2017; SCHNEIDER-MIZONY, 2018; VARENNES, 2001, 2015) and the Welcoming Language (ANÇÃ, 2008; BARBOSA, RUANO, 2016; GROSSO, 2010; PEREIRA, 2017). With the increase in the flow of asylum seekers in the city of Rio de Janeiro, a context that exposes a linguistic super diversity, it is necessary to reflect on the relationship between respect for linguistic rights and the other rights of asylum seekers in the host country.
