Abstract

This paper intends to analyze the relations between literary and historical discourse based on one of her most acclaimed narratives: A casa eterna (1991), privileging here what we believe to be a process of subversion of the crime narrative model, consolidated in the 19th century by Edgar Allan Poe and isn’t tradionally widespread in Portugal. Subvert the crime novel model ends up showing a constant presence of Hélia Correia’s work: the recurring use of intertextuality in the composition of narratives that propose a critical and aesthetic reinterpretation of previously produced discourses, resulting in a production committed to maintaining dialogue with the memory of tradition without forgetting to look for its own way of writing.
