Abstract: This text stems from discussions concerning Afropessimism and a potential rejection of the category. Through critical fabulation, I seek to articulate questions and provocations arising from internal contradictions within foundational texts of Afropessimism, examining how these texts attempt to negate the very ontological basis of their thought: the category of race. By analyzing this tension between negation and ontological articulation in the works of scholars such as Frank B. Wilderson III, Saidiya Hartman, Calvin Warren, and Hortense Spillers, I trace the pathways and possibilities emerging from the epistemological short circuits they produce. In doing so, I aim to present the author with a complexity of thought that exceeds a reading solely focused on Frank B. Wilderson III’s book Afropessimism.
