Abstract

The pandemic that has affected the world since the first months of 2020, caused by the current Sars-cov-2 virus, highlighted the vulnerability of the health surveillance systems that international organizations have as one of their prerogatives. The situation reveals the importance of a well-structured articulation in cases like this and how cultural and political differences can interfere in decisions. WHO is a recognized entity and its direction in crises like this tends to be followed. However, the COVID-19 pandemic, caused some political confrontations and questions about its role in facing the pandemic, which was observed in the case of Brazil and in the intensification with the United States. There are important differences that must be considered by international organizations. This article aims to explore these differences, from publications from different sources and analyzing the impact of these actions in Brazil, particularly in the controversies they have provoked in the political field.
