The discussions engendered in this article describe the historical context and the constitution of Postgraduate Programs in Brazil, as well as the evaluation systems that involve them. Critical reflections are also exposed on the representation of women in educational spheres, with an emphasis on higher education and stricto sensu post-graduation, as well as the insertion of women in the labor market. The correlations between graduate studies, gender and the labor market are demonstrated by exposing some results of the research “Professionals and the labor market: monitoring of Master's Degree Graduates and Evaluation of the Postgraduate Program in Social Development/ Unimontes”, from the city of Montes Claros, and which was carried out until August 2020. The analysis also included variables regarding skin color in order to demonstrate the differences and inequalities that still persist in the universe that encompasses postgraduate courses stricto sensu.
