Abstract

The article investigates the concept of “authoritarian democracy” in the work of Oliveira Vianna. For that, the discussions brought up in the second editions of the works O idealismo na constituição and Problemas de política objetiva are analyzed, in order to understand what the author meant when he used this expression. In addiction to a kind of alternative to the liberal democratic model that prevailed during the First Republic, the use of this expression demonstrates an instrumentalization of this concept to implement a political model of a democracy without a people.

Professor Visitante, em Estágio Pós-Doutoral, na Faculté de Droit - Université de Montréal, Canada (2021-2022). Atualmente, é professor adjunto no curso de Direito, no Programa de Pós-Graduação Stricto Sensu em Direito (Mestrado Acadêmico) e no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Administração Pública (PROFIAP Mestrado Profissional) da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido (UFERSA). É Sócio Titular do Instituto Brasileiro de História do Direito - IBHD. É Editor-chefe da Revista Jurídica da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-árido - REJUR. Desenvolve pesquisas no campo da História do Direito, com ênfase na história constitucional, ditadura militar e história social do trabalho.
