Abstract

This article intends to analyze Robert Wiene's cinematographic work, The Office of Doctor Caligari, seeking to understand the impact of production on cinematographic art of the period. It is not an exaggeration to say that, in expressionism, the nightmare, or the “impossible” experience becomes more than a theme among others: it constitutes the very point of view on which cinematographic art is founded.
