Abstract

Drawing on the belief that each specific time translates in a different way, this article aims at highlighting the importance of a discipline on the History of Translation in a Translator Development course. To this end, some of the various functions which can be attributed to translation are listed.

Diretor da Escola de tradução e de interpretação da Universidade de Ottawa. É autor de obras sobre a pedagogia e a história da tradução, entre elas: L' Analyse du discours comme méthode de traduction, Au coeur du trialogue canadien / Bridging the Language Solitudes, La Traduction au Canada / Translation in Canada, 1534-1984, Les Alchimistes des langues / The Language Alchemists e La Traduction raisonnée. Dirigiu Portraits de traducteurs (1999) e Portraits de traductrices (2002). Algumas de suas publicações foram traduzidas em alemão, inglês, chinês, espanhol, português e turco.
