(Re)construction of ethos and black identity in two songs from the album Ladrão, by Djonga

According to the Portuguese language, a “thief” is a person who commits the act of stealing or stealing, in addition to also being a dishonest person. Often, young black men are seen and/or judged as thieves because of the color of their skin. It is from this perspective that the rapper from Minas Gerais, Djonga, released the album entitled Ladrão, in 2019. In the album, the musician tries to deconstruct this previous image (ethos) that is formed around the black population. It is through art and speech that the rapper seeks to empower the black subject, while at the same time reinforcing the demand for spaces and rights. Therefore, this article seeks to investigate the way in which the musician, based on his songs, uses argumentative techniques to deconstruct and, effectively, construct a new image about the black population.
