Abstract

This article proposes a stroll through the streets of Old Montreal, Canada, and brings reflections about world's largest outdoor immersive digital art exhibition: the Cité Mémoire, or City of Memory, which since 2016 has been enchanting residents and visitors of the place. This aesthetic and mediatized experience provides, in a fantastic and ludic way, the chance to understand the transformations of that community in a participatory and human way and makes, through a rich and textured vision of the past, a declaration of love also for the present time. Cité Mémoire proposes the city as a work of art, which is available to the becomings of digital media, rescuing emotions through aesthetic experiences and reinventions of worlds. The images, projected on walls, buildings, trees, offer new ways of living the city, giving new meaning to spaces, rekindling reflexive movements permeated by historical and cultural perspectives that challenge thinking, being and doing. The medias used to bring life to this project promote an immersion in the art and roots of that people. As a contemporary flaneur, observing this urban setting and being challenged by these images can lead us to new perceptions of the city.
