Curricular challenges and possibilities of digital technologies in geography teaching in the municipal education network of Teresina, Piauí

The overall objective of this text is to present how Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICTs) are addressed in the document “Curriculum of Teresina,” referring to Basic Education in the municipality of Teresina-PI. The research was based on readings of articles, books, and dissertations addressing the general theme involving digital technologies, curriculum, and geography teaching. In addition, a qualitative analysis was conducted of the guiding document for basic education in the municipal network of Teresina/PI, the “Curriculum of Teresina”. Despite advances in DICTs, their use in the municipal school system still needs to be implemented more broadly, deeply, and systematically. Therefore, it is considered that the introduction of digital technologies only in certain years of primary education limits the potential for transforming geography teaching, compromising the comprehensive education of students in an increasingly globalized and digitalized context.
