Subjectivity & complexity in clinical psychology: overcoming dichotomies
Keywords:
clinical psychology, complexity, subjectivity, subjectAbstract
This paper proposes concepts founded on complex thought for the classic dichotomies of body-mind and individual-social. Beginning with a brief clinical example, it highlights how subjective processes are personified in people’s bodily experiences, by way of the notion of subjectivity, and how there is greater flexibility between the individual and social via the notion of subject. It concludes that in order for this complex and dialectical concept to be implemented, it is not enough to propose a new concept, but rather a set of concepts that when grouped within a complex logic, allows for a new way of approaching the practice.Downloads
